Book Marketing--Part II

A little more about book marketing…opportunities can surface in the most unlikely way. During the past year or so, I had been actively marketing my book, The Gifts of Change, to healthcare facilities as part of their gift shop merchandise list.

As luck would have it, when I sent it to Grove City Medical Center it ultimately came to the attention of Kelly Miller, the Community Outreach Coordinator and facilitator of the Breast Cancer Support Group there. This led to a presentation and book sales, and, most importantly, the chance to connect with wonderful cancer survivors--a very positive group of women.

The Annie Jennings tele-seminar is another case in point. Our contact originated from my need for expert sources for magazine articles I write and Annie’s extensive client list. After several conversations, she offered me the opportunity to participate in a tele-seminar with her. It was a great experience for me, not the least of which was the chance to get some top-notch advice on how to market not only my book but myself as well!

The lesson in all this is to be open to chances, opportunities and open doors—you never know where it might lead! And on that note, I’m very pleased and excited to announce that I’ll be hosting my own Internet radio show called “Take Charge of Your Life” premiering August 5, 2008 on VoiceAmerica network. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!

Book Marketing Ideas

When Annie Jennings of Annie Jennings PR contacted me to do a book marketing tele-seminar on May 14 (1-2 PM EST), I realized how much I had learned since my book came out in 2004—and how much I wish I had known before the book was released!

Book promotion doesn’t start when the galleys are being proofed or the books are hitting the shelves. For maximum effect, it should be started at the same time you decide to write a book because marketing is all about building a platform and getting yourself out there--wherever “there” may be!

I think I have become a pretty decent marketer, but I wish I had done some of the things a lot sooner—which is why the upcoming tele-seminar is so important. Annie Jennings PR has put together great information to help you maximize your PR potential!

If you are an author—or even just thinking about being one—sign up to get loads of great advice from Annie herself, the “all heart” publicist. See you on May 14th!

On the same topic, do you have a book marketing strategy that worked particularly well for you? If so, share it with the rest of us! We are all in this together!
