Guest tips and techniques

If you have the opportunity to be a guest on a radio show, be sure you do your homework first.

I’ve done a number of interviews and now, as the host of a talk show, I am lining up guests who will make my listeners' time worthwhile. So what do I look for?

  • Someone who has a message to share, not just a product to promote. In other words, someone who offers information, tips and insights that listeners can benefit from without purchasing a book or signing up for a seminar.
  • Someone who puts some advance work into the interview. Even though I will develop my own set of questions, I want my guests to offer me a list of 10 or 12 points to cover or questions to ask that fit in with the topic.
  • Someone who either has experience being interviewed or at least does a little practice beforehand. While I want the interview to be an easy yet informative conversation, I do want my guest to be ready to answer questions clearly and concisely.

If interviews are on your horizon, send me an e-mail requesting my Guest Tip Sheet. And if you have some tips of your own from either side of the microphone, click the COMMENTS tab and share them with the rest of us!
